

Kate Spence (Mezzo Soprano)

Kate Spence holds a Master of Music from the University of Auckland, Post Graduate Diplomas in Opera and Voice from the Queensland Conservatorium, Australia and an F.T.C.L from Trinity College, London. She spent two years as a Young Artist with Opera Queensland before heading to the UK in 2003 to study with Mezzo-soprano, Enid Hartle. In 2004, Kate was a finalist in the McDonald's Aria competition in Sydney and in 2000 & 2002 gained second and third placings in New Zealand's Mobil Song Quest. Kate was also hand-picked to audition to represent New Zealand in the BBC Singer of the World Competition in Cardiff in late 2004. Recent Operatic roles include: Mother & Sandman (Hansel & Gretel) Class Act Opera, Maddalena (Rigoletto) New Zealand Opera, Leila (Iolanthe) London Lawyers Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and Madelon (Andrea Chenier) Opera Queensland. Kate has sung with New Zealand Opera, Opera Queensland and the English National Opera and has appeared as a soloist with Choral Societies and Early Music ensembles in both Australia and New Zealand. Recent highlights have included a concert performance at the Autumn Festival of Melbourne's Australian National Academy of Music and appearing in concert with Dame Malvina Major.
